Palm Harbor Homes Weathering the Forces of Nature - page 7

March 5, 2001
Dear Palm Harbor:
My husband, being a professional engineer, felt the structural
quality of your homes were superior. Little did we know how true
that really was ... until February 28th, 2001 at 10.55 a.m. a 6.8
earthquake hit here in Washington State. I was home alone at the
time. Our Truman model shook and bounced! It was the longest 35
seconds I’ve known! I could barely stand. When it was over, I looked
around my house and I sat and cried with joy. There seemed to be no
damage to the home.
My husband was able to get home about 4 hours later. He crawled
under the house, on the roof, checked the chimney. Nothing. We
searched the house for cracks. Nothing! Not even hairline cracks.
Our neighbors, who have site built homes, lost stereo equipment
and a lot for other stuff, but for us... NOTHING!
Now we are working on a custom home for our beautiful wooden
acres situated on the Deschutes River. We’re repeat customers
because of the quality of your homes. Please remind everyone in
your company that a repeat customer is a reality. Just look at us!
Sincerely,
Meghann Hurst

Dear Palm Harbor:
I am writing you this to let you know about how our Palm
Harbor home fared in the recent 6.8 earthquake that happened
on February 28 near Tacoma, Washington. As you have prob-
ably heard, there is a substantial amount of damage around the
region. What wasn’t reported was how other structures fared, in
particularly, manufactured homes.
Both my wife and I were in downtown Seattle when the earthquake
hit. We envisioned seeing our home split in half, walls cracked,
our fish tank on the floor and our animals in hiding. What we
found is a true testament and affirms our decision in purchasing a
Palm Harbor home.
I went under the home to explore the footings and foundation. The
house didn’t give. According to one neighbor, “The quake hit with
the force of a full-size pick-up truck a 90 m.p.h. slamming into the
side of the house. And then the real shakin’ started.” We feel truly
blessed.
The folks at Palm Harbor were instrumental in helping us get our
first home and should be proud of how well the home handled the
quake. This act of Mother Nature showed us proof positive that we
made the right decision.
Take Care,
Russell J. Walker
Earthquakes prove
our homes are
better built.
